About the Program

The Senior Executive Advanced Finance and Accounting Program (SEAFAP) is a specialized 1-year program designed for senior financial management executives working in the public service who do not possess an accounting designation. The Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) delivers this program.

Participant Expectations

To qualify for the Senior Executive Advanced Finance and Accounting Program (SEAFAP) program, you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • Be currently working in financial management
  • Be identified in the executive talent management process
  • Receive a recommendation from your Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to participate in the program 

Program Experience

The program focuses on supplementing technical financial and accounting knowledge, specific to the public sector and consists of 4 modules

Provides the foundation knowledge needed to build skills. Participants can expect to learn more about accounting and reporting in the Public Sector, the decision-making process, and the budgeting process.
Provides participants with more detailed information on financial elements executives often encounter. These elements include preparing financial statements, understanding tangible capital assets, performing consolidations, and dealing with emerging issues.
Deepens participant’s understanding and provides them with actionable knowledge on key executive topics. These topics include performance management, governance and accountability, and effective resource management.
Assesses participant’s knowledge and skills with a final comprehensive exercise.

The Senior Executive Advanced Finance and Accounting Program has broadened my understanding of financial reporting in the Public Sector and its application to my department and the Government of Canada.
